Need to feel the pain of Sickle Cell Anemia (Hemoglobinopathy) patients

Governor Shri Mangubhai Patel has said that the pain of Sickle Cell Anemia patients must be felt with full sensitivity and all measures should be taken for its prevention and treatment. “People will bless you, parents of those who become healthy due to your efforts will also be indebted to you. Being the Governor, I request you not to be negligent in the treatment of this disease.

Governor Shri Patel was taking a joint review meeting of the Hemoglobinopathy Prevention and Treatment Mission in Jhabua and Alirajpur districts at Jhabua today.

Governor Shri Patel said that the mission would be run as a pilot project in Jhabua and Alirajpur districts and efforts should be made to prevent and treat this disease with utmost seriousness within the next six months. He directed that every pregnant woman and child should be compulsorily tested for Sickle Cell. If pregnant women are diagnosed with Sickle Cell Anemia, the unborn babies should also be tested.

Governor Shri Patel directed that efforts should be made to eradicate Sickle Cell Anemia from its very roots with the collective efforts of Health Department and AYUSH Department. It is necessary to be aware and have a positive attitude towards this disease. The disease should not be hidden, it should be checked and treated.

In the meeting, MP Shri Guman Singh said that information regarding this disease should be provided to the people so that patients be treated. It should be publicized in the local language. MLA Shri Kantilal Bhuria also expressed his views. National Secretary of NESCO, Shri Gautam Dongre, who came from Nagpur, told that both his daughter (17) and son (12) are suffering from Sickle Cell Anaemia.

As the disease is very painful, it should be investigated and treated promptly, his organization is working in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra in this direction. A separate WhatsApp group has been created in which experts are available for consultation.

During the meeting, Governor Shri Patel distributed mobile phones to seven Anganwadi workers in the National Poshan Mission. Governor Shri Patel also planted a Tulsi sapling in the Collectorate premises.
