General Council meeting of Sanchi University of Buddhist-Indic Studies held
Bhopal : Tuesday, September 13, 2022. Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that along with the operation of infrastructure development works and welfare of the people, it is also the responsibility of the government to think and work on culture, religious tradition, values of life and how the world will be in the coming times. The state government will extend full cooperation in realizing the projects of Sanchi Buddhist University.

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan was addressing the fifth meeting of the General Council of the Sanchi University of Buddhist-Indic Studiesat Mantralaya today. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that the creation of the 6th International Dharma-Dhamma Conference by the university is commendable. All necessary preparations should be made by fixing the dates of the conference. The state government will extend full cooperation for this. At the same time, the vision of an international university should also be realized by providing space for academic and other work to other countries in the university campus. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that the idea of an international conference organized by Sanchi University on 6th and 7th January before the investors’ summit and Pravasi Bharatiya Divas at Indore is commendable. Necessary preparations should be made for this also.
Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that people from Sri Lanka and other countries come to Sanchi with great faith. This place is the basis of connecting nations. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that when he went to Sri Lanka, the idea of building a temple of Sita Mata there and starting a university at Sanchi came up simultaneously and it was given shape also. From the land of India, the Buddhist and Sanatan ideology spread out to the world. Only India will guide this world humanity to the eternal truth. India is also moving forward in this direction. Perhaps this is the divine providence, of which we all are the medium. The state government considers all the proposals of Sanchi University to be important. All possible assistance will be extended for this. Necessary grants and sanctions will be obtained by communicating with the University Grants Commission and the Ministry of Human Resource Development.
Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that the vision of an international level university should be realized by providing space for academic work to other countries in the Sanchi University campus.
Among those who were present in the meeting of the General Council of the University were Culture Minister Sushri Usha Thakur, Chancellor of the University Prof. SLTS Rinpoche (Lobsang Tenzin), Principal Secretary Culture Shri Sheo Shekhar Shukla, Members of the Council, Vice Chancellor of Nava Nalanda Mahabihar University, Prof. Vaidyanath Labh, Padmashri Shri Kapil Tiwari, Shri Abhay Katyayan, Shri Umesh Upadhyay, Prof. Karam Tej Singh and Dr. Neerja Gupta, Vice Chancellor of the University and Member Secretary of the Council were present. Additional Chief Secretary Higher Education Shri Shailendra Singh and Additional Chief Secretary Finance Shri Manoj Govil were also present.University activities
It was informed that the University is carrying out various activities as per the National Education Policy. The admission process in the academic session and semester system has been implemented in the postgraduate courses. Thirty two different certificate courses have been started. Sanchi University’s campus located at Barla village in Raisen district has been shifted. Now the new campus has been shifted to Madhya Pradesh Tourism’s Gateway Retreat Campus at Sanchi. Beautification work is being done on the allotted land at Salamatpur near Sanchi. Efforts have been made for the creation of Bauddhik Peeth. Information was also given about the initiative taken for the Literary fest-2023 in Khajuraho. Along with the activities in the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Distance Learning Center of the University has been started in Khajuraho. The process of recruitment has been started on the approved 63 posts.
Proposals have been made to work with Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Cambodia towards building an International Buddhist Circuit. Initiative has been taken to set up video recording studio in the university. The first phase of work for the university building is nearing completion. It I expected to be completed in the next six months. Various works are proposed for the second phase. An estimate is being prepared for this. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that necessary cooperation would be extended for the second phase of the works of the university building.
International Dharma-Dhamma convention
It was told that Sanchi University is contemplating to organise the 6th International Dharma-Dhamma Convention in the state. For this, proceedings have been started for the venue, inviting guests and making necessary financial arrangements. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that necessary preparations should be started for the systematic organisation of this convention. The state government will also provide the necessary budget.
International conference proposed in Indore on 6th and 7th January
It was informed that taking advantage of the programmes of Pravasi Bharatiya Diwas on January 7-8 and 9 and Global Investors Summit on January 10 and 11, an international conference on January 6 and 7 is planned in Indore. Efforts are being made by Sanchi University to take the cooperation of ICHR to give it a shape. The names of scholars from the country and abroad are being considered for participating in this. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan asked to make necessary preparations for this conference.
Opinions of the members of the General Council
Culture Minister Sushri Usha Thakur said that the university is working continuously in realising the concept of cultural nationalism. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Chouhan, this university will attain the climax of success.
University Chancellor Prof. SLTS Rinpoche (Losheng Tenjin) said that a fascination for ancient disciplines is seen all over the world. Under the direction of Chief Minister Shri Chouhan, Sanchi University will create an image of international level.
Shri Umesh Upadhyay, who came from New Delhi said that Sanchi University of Buddhist-Indic Studies is a unique gift from Madhya Pradesh to India. Shri Vaidyanath Labh, Nalanda said that Chief Minister Shri Chouhan is a scholar of Indian philosophy. Sanchi University is the result of his inclination towards this. It is believed that Sanchi University and Nalanda Mahavihara University will also work jointly. Maharishi Shri Abhay Katyayan, Gwalior said that the professors and research scholars joining Sanchi University are selected on the basis of merit. Shri Kapil Tiwari said that various dimensions of Buddhist arts would be seen flourishing together along with academic activities in the university. It is emerging as a dedicated centre for the Buddhist Sanatani knowledge tradition.
Dedication of the university ‘Kulgeet’
Chief Minister Shri Chouhan dedicated the ‘Kulgeet’ of the University. Music director Amit Trivedi has composed the music of this melodious Kulgeet. It is sung by Smt. Priya Malik and Shri Arun Dev Yadav. All the members of the general council listened to the song and all the members of the council including the Chief Minister Shri Chouhan appreciated the word choice, music and singing style of the song.
